Gastri Remnant Cancer Diagnosed 17 Years after Subtotal Gastrectomy for Advenced Gastric Cancer

There have been many reports of cancer arising from gastric remnant after partial gastrectomy ofr benign disease, but few cases of cancer after partial gastrectomy for malignant disease. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of
patients whose cancer was found in the gastric remnant after gastrectomy for malignant disease. Such cancers in the gastric remnant seem likely to increase due to the rise in numbers of operations for early gastric cancer. Diagnosis of gastric
remnant
cancer is difficult, and such lesions are often found at an advanced stage when symptoms appeared. After partial gastrectomy for gastric cancer, even in asymptomatic patients, we recommend periodic endoscopic examination including biopsy. The
endoscopist should carefully inspect not only the site of anastomosis but also the other regions of stomack.
Recently we experienced one case of early gastric cancer arising from gastric remnant 17 years after subtotal gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer, therefore we report it with review of literatures.
